Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals Kolkata receives approval for performing Heart Transplants
Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals Kolkatatoday announced the receipt of approval for performing Heart Transplantation from the Directorate of Health Services, West Bengal.The certificate of registration for performing heart transplantation, valid for five years, was granted under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994 to Apollo Gleneagles, a JCI, NABL, ISO 22000:2005 - HACCP Certification accredited 700-bed tertiary care hospital in Kolkata and part of the Apollo Hospitals Group. This milestone approval makes Apollo Gleneagles the fifthhospital in Eastern India and the fourth hospital from the Apollo Hospitals Group to give a new lease of life to patients who need a heart transplant.

The first heart transplant at Apollo Hospitals was successfully performed in 1995. In 2004, a specialized Heart Transplant Programme was set up with a multidisciplinary approach to End Stage Heart Failure. Today, a dedicated Heart Transplant team consisting of Heart Transplant Surgeons, Transplant Cardiologists, Critical Care Specialists (Intensivists), Pulmonologists, Infectious Disease Consultants, Immunologists, Pathologists, Transplant coordinators, Trained ICU and Ward Nurses with Liaison Officers work to save lives.

The Heart Transplant program at Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals will offer individualized treatment to patients with advanced heart failure. The dedicated Heart Transplant team will work across specialities to provide comprehensive care to patients with end-stage heart disease through all phases before, during and after the transplant supported by life-saving advanced intensive care technology like the Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine. Apollo Gleneagles will also work to help patients through promoting organ donation.
